you’re forgetting how much higher the standard is at Olympics though and that was why it’d never been acheived before hand

This is so diferent to gymnastics nowadays, the floor is practically a trampoline which makes it obviously alot easier to tumble, but here, Nadia is tumbling on hard floor. And yet, her routines are still amazing.
I guess she really is the definition of Perfection. <3

This is before the Olympics! I didnt realise she had recieved 10′s before it musn’t have been a huge shock to get the first 10 at Montreal then she would have known if the routine was as good.

Why is it that almost every competition she was in say her last name wrong? It’s Coma-neech. Not Coma-neech-ee.
Other than that, she is the best gymnast I have ever seen. Even though the styles are different then than they are now and the equipment is much better, I still think she is still better then Nastia. NO offense to Nastia fans. Nadia is the worlds first ever perfect 10.

*1992-Zmeskal injured (she wasn’t able to do her most difficult tumbling) maybe lost an AA medal and a FE medal for sure)
*1996-Moceanu-Strug injured (moceanu’s tibia, strug ankle it’s seems to me that it wasn’t just the vault thing, she had a bandage on her left ankle)
or what do you think about it?

Exactly. Besides, floors used for gymnastics today are almost like trampolines compared to those of Nadia’s era, so a double back IS a big deal under those circumstances. And as you say, gymnastics isn’t supposed to be exclusively about the tumbling anyway. Choreography, artistry and personality is at least as important.

oh my god, an ignorant posting here, of cours a double back is no the big deal today, but at that time it was. Technology and food makes the difference today among athletes, you cant compare Pelé with Ronaldo or Maradona, or Carl lewis with the jamaican who recently broke 100 metters. The difference here is how comaneci was really ABOVE THE REST OF GYMNAST OF HER TIME. And besides that, no athlete today has her OWN style like Nadia had, its a personality stuff that only big ones can have.

I know; no sprung floors in those days.Yes, gymnastics is through the roof regarding difficulty nowadays, but the equipment has evolved so much that the difficulty had to evolve too. But these girls had to be such great athletes, to get the height for their somersaults off what was basically, a hard floor. Amazing.
